Police rescue girl under murder threat

LAHORE On the directions of the inspector general of police, Punjab, police took prompt and timely action in Nankana Sahib district and rescued a girl who might have been murdered in the name of honour.

The girl, Ayesha, has been recovered from a village and shifted to a shelter home. According to the details, an accused, Ali Raza, had killed his sister Samina after firing at a village in Nankana Sahib. In view of that incident, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan had sent a letter to the IG and Human Rights Cell of Punjab police in which it was requested to take timely steps for saving the life of Ayesha who was the niece of murdered girl. According to the letter, Ayesha has been missing for many days and according to the neighbours she might be murdered.

Human Rights Cell AIG Saiful Murtaza sent the letter to the Nankana DPO and asked for timely recovery of the girl. Police recovered her and produced before a magistrate. In the court, statement of the girl was recovered and, upon her request, she was moved to the shelter home. Police team also arrested Ali Raza, alleged murderer of Samina and also recovered the murder weapon from his possession. Legal action is being taken against the accused. Police teams are trying to arrest other accused persons involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan praised the IG and Human Rights Cell for saving the life of the girl. The IG directed all the RPOs and DPOs of the province to take adequate steps under their supervision to stop the incidents of child and woman abuse along with other heinous crimes.

crackdown: City division police, in a crackdown, claimed to have arrested 161 criminals and recovered illegal arms and drugs.

Police seized 30 pistols, more than four kg charas and 108 litre liquor. Police also busted four gangs and arrested their 10 members. Two bikes, one motorcycle-rickshaw, six mobiles and weapons were recovered from them.

Moreover, 13 proclaimed offenders of A and B categories and five court absconders were arrested. Twelve persons were during action against brothels. Forty-one persons were held for violating the laws on kite flying, wheelie, renting premises and loudspeaker use.

Road accidents: The Punjab Emergency Service/Rescue 1122 responded to 846 road accidents in all 36 districts of the province during the last 24 hours.

Eight people died and 932 sustained injuries in the road accidents. As many 538 badly injured people were removed to different hospitals while 394 victims with minor injuries were given first aid by the rescue medical teams.

Man falls into drain: A 35-year-old man accidentally fell into a drain near LOS on Thursday and he was timely fished out by rescuers. The man, yet to be identified, suffered minor injuries. He told the rescuers that he fell into the nullah due to slippery road.
