Rain clears smog, adds to chill

The city witnessed rain which increased chill in the air here Thursday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

Met officials said a westerly wave is affecting most upper and central parts of the country. They predicted that rain/ thunderstorm (snowfall over mountain) is expected in districts of north Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Heavy falls are also expected at isolated places in Kashmir. Smog is likely to prevail in upper/central Punjab, upper Sindh during morning/night.

The rain in City started in the morning and continued until late at night. Soon after the rain started city roads were filled with rainwater mixed with a white foamy type material. This washing powder type material was carrying dangerous chemicals, which were suspended in the air in shape of smog, said Naseemur Rehman, a senior EPD official. He said rain had washed away smog from the city airs.

Rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Mithi 32, Mirpurkhas 07, Shaheed Benazirabad, Thattha 04, Hyderabad, Tandojam 03, Jacobabad, Rohri 01, Quetta 14, Barkhan 09, Kalat 08, Sibbi 06, Dalbandin 03, Turbat, Jiwani 01, Malam Jabba 07, Saidu Sharif 02, Dir 01, Bahawalpur (City 16, AP 05), Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Multan 13, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar 11, Kot Addu 10, Okara 09, Khanpur 08, DG Khan 07, Lahore (City 07, AP 05),Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Narowal 05, Jhang, Bhakkar, Layyah 04, Gujrat 03, Islamabad (Zero Point, AP 02), Sargodha 02, Faisalabad , Toba Tek Singh 01, Garhi Dupatta and Kotli 01 while snowfall was recorded at Malam Jabba and Murree.
