The death of reason

Newspost

December 13, 2019

Over the past many years, I have felt extreme anguish and unrest over the direction our society has taken. Overall, we are hurtling towards the law of the jungle. In the good old days, there was some sanity. However, over the decades we have annihilated all social structures. We used to have a way of logical discussion and intellectual discourse; now we settle our scores by bombing places of worship and schools. How did we come to this? I don’t have a clue. However, this is so disturbing that I want to put forth something.

The recent incident of doctors in Lahore beating up lawyers because of some disagreement, inside a hospital, and the lawyers’ extreme response is extremely disturbing. However, what is more disturbing is that the political leadership and the judicial system are not willing to tackle the issue. Since they are not doing anything solid, therefore, they are talking. I think, (I am not sure at all), we need to establish the writ of the state. But that is a very complex issue. It involves powerful people: people who are not doctors or lawyers. But rest assured that if we don’t do anything for one issue, then other issues will come forth. The judiciary can do something about this.
