GCU VC stresses promotion of arts education

LAHORE:A memorandum of understating (MoU) was singed here on Wednesday between two prestigious institutions of metropolitan, i.e. Government College University Lahore and Lahore Art Council for promotion and encouragement of artistic and cultural endeavors among youths.

GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and Lahore Art Council (LAC) Executive Director Ather Ali Khan signed the accord at a graceful ceremony organised by the GCU Directorate of Academic Planning and External Links (AP&EL) at the university’s Meeting Rooms.

Muneeza Hashmi, chairperson of LAC Board of Governors, was the guest of honour at the event. CU faculty deans Prof Sultan Shah, Prof Riaz Ahmad and Prof Khalid Manzoor Butt, Distinguished National Professor Dr Ikram-ul-Haq, Registrar Saboor Ahmad Khan were also present

The GCU VC called for changing the attitude towards arts education. He added that both GCU and LAC had agreed to pool in their resources and hold conferences, seminars, talks and workshops on artistic, literary, cultural and intellectual themes so that a debate could be initiated in this regard.

According to the 27-point accord, GCU would also impart IT, HR and other financial management trainings to the employees of LAC.

The LAC executive director said that GCU was one of the most prestigious educational of Pakistan which always nurtured and celebrated excellence not only in research and education but also in arts and culture. He said that all halls and resources of Alhamara would be available to GCU students after the MoU for all kinds of cultural activities.

Muneeza Hashmi said that the accord would give GCU students an opportunity to showcase their talent to a wider audience at Alhamra.

Malaysian team visits UVAS: A Malaysian delegation visited University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) City Campus.

The delegation comprised Asia E University Malaysia Board of Director Chairman Emeritus Prof Dr Syed Jalaluddin and Asia E University Founder President Prof Dr Ansari Ahmed. University of Education (UE) Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, former UVAS VC Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz, Faculty of Biosciences Dean Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman and Faculty of Veterinary Science Dean Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf were also present.

Earlier, delegation along with Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha visited different departments of UVAS, including Veterinary Academy and Department of Meat Science and Technology. In-Service Veterinary Professional Development (IVPD) Project Director Dr Muhammad Ikram spoke about the objectives of the Veterinary Academy. He said the aim of the academy was to develop human resource, linkages and socio-economic growth.

They also visited different sections of Department of Meat Science and Technology where they saw slaughtering facilities, electric stimulation, meat preserving system, chilling and packaging systems, etc.

Later, Prof Pasha briefed the Malaysian delegation on UVAS history, campuses, academic and research programme, national and international collaborations.

The delegates appreciated the facilities available at the Department of Meat Science and Technology and Veterinary Academy for imparting theoretical and practical knowledge to professionals for the uplift of veterinary education and research.

They sought collaboration opportunities between UVAS and Malaysia universities. They also showed keen interest in mutual consultation with UVAS in E learning programme and veterinary training programme.
