Police arrested a suspect on Monday in connection with the aerial firing incident in front of law enforcement officials near the Sea View beach on Sindhi Culture Day on December 1.

The arrest was made by the Sahil police and they identified the arrested suspect as Talha. However, said the officials, the weapon used in the incident was yet to be recovered. Police said raids to arrest his accomplices were under way.

Sindh police chief Dr Syed Kaleem Imam had taken notice of a video that went viral on social media showing the then unidentified persons resorting to aerial firing in front of the police near Sea View.

The province’s top cop sought a detailed report from South Zone police chief Sharjeel Kharal, with the direction to brief him about the progress made in solving the case, and warned that the miscreants would not go unpunished.

The video showed that a few people wearing Ajraks and moving in different vehicles were stopped by the police travelling in a mobile near Sea View, which falls in the jurisdiction of the Sahil police station.

Though the miscreants stopped their vehicles for a while, they verbally abused the law enforcement officials and shouted “Jeay Sindh” (Long Live Sindh), while one of them carried out aerial firing in front of the police, resulting in the officials letting the suspects leave the scene.

A case was registered at the Sahil police station, while no arrest was made in this connection until Monday. Sindhi Culture Day was celebrated with enthusiasm across the province, with thousands of people dressed in cultural attire poured onto the streets in the form of dozens of rallies.
