There will be no martial law in future: Zafar

LAHORE:There will be no martial laws in the future in Pakistan, said former Federal Law Minister and Senator Dr SM Zafar here Sunday.

There is no conflict amongst the Pakistani institutions now and the army, judiciary and executive are on the same page, Zafar said while speaking at 66th conference of Pakistan Visionary Forum on the topic of “Future Pakistan” held at TECH Society Club. Participants of the event included former Minister of State Qayyum Nizami, former Secretary Foreign Affairs Shamshad Ahmed Khan, Agricultural Scientist Dr Muhammad Sadiq, former Adviser COMSATS University Dr Hasibullah, Rana Tariq Mahmood, Jameel Gishkori, Mahmudur Rehman Chughtai, Ayub Sabir, Salman Abid, former Chairman IRSA Shafqat Masood, former Auditor General Punjab Jameel Bhatti, Sardar Saeed Khan, Engineer M Yaqoob Chaudhry, Dr Ikram Koshal, Maj (r) Khalid Nasr and Professor Mashkoor Ahmed.

SM Zafar said that provincial autonomy had been ensured under 18th Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan. Influence of America and other international powers will end in the future Pakistan. Religious parties will not be able to win many seats under present parliamentary political system, he observed.

Pakistan has been able to overcome terrorism by the efforts of civil and military forces' sacrifices, public tolerance and patience and questions about the existence of Pakistan have been stopped. Pakistan is ahead of India in missile and nuclear technology which has ensured safe future of Pakistan, Zafar added.

Other speakers expressed that people’s expectations are not fully fulfilled by the present government as they could not get majority in the elections and they had to form government with alliance of other political parties. They also expressed that we should strengthen Pakistan for which Almighty Allah has given a golden chance to us. Future of the world is in Asia particularly China. Salman Abid said that there are governance issues in Pakistan. Qayyum Nizami said that other countries make plans for the next 50 years but Pakistanis make decisions on day to day basis. Major surgery is required in Pakistan besides free, fair and foolproof accountability system and quick and cheap justice. Former Secretary Foreign Affairs Shamshad Ahmed Khan said that Korea, China, Malaysia and Singapore were developed by the provision of best leadership.
