Vested interests behind protest in Women University Swabi: admin
PESHAWAR: The management of the Women University Swabi has made it clear that academic activities in the two campuses of the university were going on smoothly and the designs of some vested interests, who were out to sabotage the peaceful environment of the university, would be foiled.
The university administration through a communiqué said that over 2000 students were enrolled in the university, who were regularly taking part in their academic activities and attending their classes. However, a few students at the behest of a couple of teachers, whose contract tenure have either been expired or about to expire, wanted to create law and order in the university and disturb its peaceful academic environment, it said, adding, no one would be allowed to play with the future of the students for accomplishing their nefarious designs.
The communiqué said that the issue was created when the university sought an explanation from a faculty member Dr Ashfaqur Rehman, head of Political Science Department, on account of negligence in duties. Instead of submitting a reply to the explanation, the faculty member started using tactics to pressurise the university by provoking the students of his department against the university administration and started a boycott of classes. The university engaged in talks with the students though their demands were seen as irrelevant and having nothing to do with their academic well-being and university business in the dissemination of quality education. The protesting students were invited to the central hall of the university where Vice-Chancellor Dr Imtiaz Ali Khan addressed them and they announced calling off of the protest. However, a few students still insisted to continue protest to safeguard the interest of the two faculty members.
It merits a mention here that Dr Imtiaz Ali Khan, vice-chancellor University of Swabi, has recently been given additional charge of the Women University, Swabi, till the arrival of a regular vice-chancellor there.
