KARACHI: Reacting to the demolition of newspaper stalls in the garb of anti encroachment drive, the All Pakistan Anjuman Akhbar Faroshan Association announced on Wednesday to shut down newspaper stalls across the city.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the Central Association of Anjuman Akhbar Faroshan, Karachi, chaired by Mohammad Iqbal Noon and attended by Gen Secy Abdul Hameed Dada, VP Abdul Sattar Karsaz, Shafiq Bhai and Nasir Nisar. The meeting was also attended by the core committee of the city’s newspaper stall owners.

The meeting termed the police action against newspaper stalls under the garb of the drive against encroachments has made their lives miserable. They said the demolition of newspaper stalls and arrest of their owners was raised with the CS Sindh and the commissioner Karachi but things did not improve. Instead on Wednesday, newspaper stalls in Quaidabad and Malir were also demolished, which we strongly criticise. Announcing city-wide shut down of the newspaper stalls, the central association warned if the city administration did not address its concerns they will initiate a province-wide protest movement.
