Nawaz allowed for treatment abroad on humanitarian grounds: minister

PESHAWAR: Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Imran Khan allowed the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to go to London for treatment on humanitarian grounds.

“It is a matter of shame that PML-N people are using the illness of their leader for political gains,” he lamented.

A handout said that he was talking to reporters after an awareness walk from the Chief Minister’s House to the Governor’s House on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day.

He said that the government was taking steps to prevent the rights of children and protect them from violence.

Minister for Mines and Minerals Dr Amjad Ali, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Kamran Bangash, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz, Members Provincial Assembly, secretaries, street children, students of various schools and civil society representatives participated in the walk.

Speaking to the media, Shaukat Yousafzai said had the government wanted it would have created obstacles in Nawaz’s departure but Prime Minister Imran Khan did not want that.

He said that the PML-N should not politicize Nawaz’s illness. “The nation saw that Nawaz Sharif looked healthy while boarding the air ambulance and his platelets were rising,” he remarked.

The minister said that Nawaz Sharif must come back and face the cases as he was convicted by the court.

He said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Plan A and B had failed badly.

He said that the Maulana wasted the time of nation and students of madrassa.

The minister said that Maulana’s dharna was a failed show and country was moving in the right direction.

He said the government was very sensitive about the rights of children.

The prevention of violence is being ensured and physical violence has been abolished in the schools, the minister added.

Shaukat said that courts have been formed to ensure the rights of children and justice committees would also be set up very soon.

In response to a question, the provincial minister said that it was good if the National Accountability Bureau wanted accountability.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan will never tolerate any corrupt person in government.

The NAB is completely independent and accountability should not be stopped for anyone,” the minister concluded.
