Zaynab, Ilsa, Aiman, Komal reach under-19 squash quarters
KARACHI: Zaynab Khan, Ilsa Imran, Aiman Shahbaz and Komal Khan won their quarter-final matches of the girls’ under-19 event at the Jubilee Insurance All Pakistan Junior Squash Championships here at the RKJK Squash Complex on Wednesday.
Zaynab Khan defeated Sibgha Arshad in straight sets 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 in only 19 minutes. Ilsa Imran was given a tough time by Fehmina Asim before she recorded an 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 5-11, 11-8 victory in 33 minutes.
Aiman Shahbaz took only 14 minutes to dispatch Amna Malik 11-9, 11-1, 11-1. Komal Khan dropped a set before beating Marium Malik 11-5, 3-11, 11-6, 11-6.
Meanwhile, Zeeshan Zeb defeated Rafi Khan 11-8, 11-8, 14-12 (3-0) and Hassan Raza trounced Ahmad Hassan 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 in the boys’ under-19 quarter-final matches. Moaz Khan was taken to full stretch by Khushal Riaz before he recorded a 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10 victory in 43 minutes – the longest game of the day, while Uzair Shoukat zapped Mohammad Usman 11-4, 11-4, 11-8.
In the boys’ under-13 quarter-finals, Abdullah Nawaz defeated Saim Asif 11-8, 11-0, 11-9 and Nadeem beat Yashwa Yousaf 13-11, 11-5, 11-5. M Zaman recovered from two sets down to overcome Obaidullah Afzal 7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7. Zuraiz Naeem thrashed Abdul Basit 11-8, 12-10, 11-9.
