The recent locust infestation in Sindh was a great challenge to be tackled with all available means as our survival rests on agriculture produce. Both the federal and provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab must next time gear up their efforts to overcome this issue. Technical advice can be sought from the Pak Agriculture Research Council (PARC) to devise a methodology to eliminate locusts from our soil. PARC can also recommend an immediate solution so that unaffected crops can be protected either through aerial or ground sprays of pesticides as individual farmers cannot afford this. Any casual attitude can result in huge losses of cotton, sugarcane and future expected crops.
The federal ministry of food and research must coordinate and facilitate the provinces of Sindh and Punjab. I would like to request the prime minister to order all stake holders to redress this issue next time it happens.
