MULTAN: The nation celebrated the 69th Independence Day with enthusiasm and nationalist spirit here on Friday.
The day was dawn with special prayers for the progress and prosperity of the country. Colourful stalls were established alongside roads displaying national flags, badges and caps. Houses and streets were decorated with colourful lights and buntings to celebrate the day. A number of flag hoisting ceremonies were held at various places while the main ceremony was held at Qila Qasim Bagh in which legislators as well as the officers of the city district administration and police participated. A special squad of Civil Defence women guards performed duty in red and white uniforms. Schoolchildren presented traditional camel dance at Muslim High school while cake cutting ceremonies were held at Shahbaz Sharif General Hospital, Fatima Jinnah Hospital, Qila Qasim Bagh and other important places. DCO Zahid Salim Gondal and CPO Azhar Ikram cut cakes at different places to mark the day. Likewise, a special ceremony was held at the LHC Multan Bench High Court Bar Association in which Justice Qasim Khan of the LHC Multan Bench hoisted flag. CPO Azhar Ikram held a flag hoisting ceremony at Multan Police Lines and he visited martyred cops memorial and offered fateha. Similarly, the Mepco also held a special ceremony at Mepco Headquarters where GM Recovery Muhammad Arshad hoisted the national flag. The Anjuman Fidayan-e-Mustafa Pakistan also organised functions on the I-Day in various cities of the country.
