Students and civil society activists Monday gathered at Liberty Roundabout to protest the child abuse incident in Kasur and allegedly mishandling of the case.
The protest was called by Democratic Students Alliance. A press release said that on August 8, the country was jolted by the news that a child pornography ring had been operating in Kasur since 2006. The press release alleged that MPA Malik Ahmed Saeed pressured the victims’ parents to withdraw their allegations against the child abuse suspects. It alleged that one of the main suspects was released from the police custody after the payment of Rs 5 million bribe. The protesters are on streets today not only against the way the 300 victims has been handled by authorities concerned, but against the general treatment of abuse victims in society, the press release said. The protest demands that schools should educate children and parents how to prevent and react to child abuse.
