‘Wuklagardi’ not a good omen: Governor
Says Nishtar Hospital to be made health university

MULTAN: Governor Malik Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana has said that soldiers are sacrificing their lives to end terrorism and bring peace in the country.
Addressing the District Bar Association here on Saturday, he said that the PML-N government was launching development projects and resolving national issues through consensus. He said that development of south Punjab was priority of the government. He said that a kidney centre and a cancer hospital would be set up besides upgrading the Multan Institute of Cardiology. He said that the government had planned establishing at least one more teaching hospital in Multan and giving a status of the health university to the Nishtar Hospital. The governor said that the Multan Children Complex would also be upgraded.
Speaking on lawyers’ ethics, the governor said that the lawyers should be well dressed before appearing in courts and they needed to improve their English language. He said that he had opened doors of the Governor House to all the people, including lawyers. He discouraged the strike culture of the lawyers. He said that a new term of ‘Wuklagardi’ had emerged in the society, which was not a positive omen because the lawyers belonged to an educated class. He said that the government was planning to provide the judgment-based law education to the lawyers. He asked the lawyers to give due respect to the judges.
District Bar Association president Khalid Ashraf Khan said that the DBA general body meeting had rejected the shifting of judicial complex. He demanded the governor grant Rs 100 million for the lawyers’ benevolent fund.
INSTITUTE OF KIDNEY DISEASES: Chief Minister’s Advisor on Health Khawaja Suleman Rafiq has said that the government is spending Rs 1 billion on the Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases project.
Addressing a meeting here on Saturday, he said that kidney transplant facility would be available in the institute. He said that the government had decided to set up a trust to run the institute affairs. The health advisor said that the government had sanctioned 635 posts to get the services Pakistani doctors living abroad. He said that the chief minister had taken a notice of delay in the completion of the project and sent him to Multan to monitor the situation. He said that free treatment would be provided to the people. He said that medical experts from Singapore would soon visit the institute and submit their input to the government. He said that 75pc machinery for the institute had been purchased and Rs 230.3 million had been allocated to purchase the remaining 25pc machinery in the next four days. He said that the MIKD outdoor would start functioning from November 1.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Health Secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik said that the Punjab Health Department doctors and nurses’ services would not be affected by posting them at the MIKD. The medical staff, including doctors and nurses, would be sent on deputation to the trust hospitals, he added.
MIKD Executive Director Dr Rafiq Anjum said that the building had been completed at a cost of Rs 390 million. He said that more than 40 dialysis machines would be installed at the MIKD.
