KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) claimed on Saturday that during the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Congress Meeting in Marrakesh on October 31, 2014, Rana Mujahid was elected as Chairman Master’s Panel, Chairman AHF Equipment Committee and Secretary AHF Events and Venues Committee for 2015-2018.
The Congress had also elected Olympian Anjum Saeed as Member Coaching, Development & Education Committee of AHF for 2015-2018.
It was surprising that PHF released this statement nine months after these elections were held.
Sources said it was another pressure tactic of PHF bosses who are in hot waters due to failure of Pakistan team to qualify for Rio Olympics 2016. They want to protect themselves from any action by the federal government as a six-member inquiry committee appointed by PM Nawaz Sharif held them responsible for Pakistan’s poor show at the Olympics qualifying rounds and irregularities in expenses. The committee has recommended sacking top PHF officials and making fresh appointments.
