The former president of Pakistan and co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari, directed the irrigation minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Saturday to utilise all available resources to ensure the safety of people in the aftermath of heavy rains and floods in Sindh.
He asked the minister to get his department o monitor the river embankments closely and make sure that there are no breaches in the walls of water ways to jeopardise the lives of locals and their properties.
Talking to Khuhro on the telephone, Zardari asked him to expedite the relief and rescue efforts for the affected people and stressed consolidation of efforts for providing shelter to the people.
The minister informed the PPP chairman about the overall situation in the province following heavy showers and the rise of water level in rivers and barrages.
He assured the former president that he was personally monitoring the situation and the condition of embankments.
Zardari asked the minister to keep up his untiring efforts while gearing up to prepare for moving displaced people to safer locations.
