FAISALABAD: Experts at a seminar have said that climate change is providing suitable environment for breeding of dengue larva in the region.
The anti-dengue seminar was organised by the University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Thursday. The experts said that by the end of the century, the world temperature would rise 1 to 3 degrees that could affect half of the world population.
Speaking on the occasion, UAF Vice-Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan stressed on taking measures by all segments of society to control the population of dengue in the rainy season. He urged the people to keep their homes, environment and surroundings clean and remove stagnant water. He praised the steps being taken by the provincial government to control the disease. He said that observing the Dengue Day was the part of the chief minister’s campaign aimed at educating the people about prevention. Dean Faculty Dr Muhammad Arshad said: “It is our responsibility to serve the community to save the precious lives from dengue.”
Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif said that his Department of Entomology was making serious efforts to conduct the valuable research on dengue. He said that they had been working on a comprehensive campaign for the last three years to solve the issue at the national level.
Dr Shahid Majid said that increasing population, deforestation, urbanisation and climate changes were also causing the dengue outbreak. He said that in monsoon, there were more chances of its outbreak. He said that the dengue attacked at the time of sunrise and sunset.
Dr Rashid Rasul said that the precautionary measures were essential to fight the dengue. Later, an awareness walk was taken out from the admin block up to the auditorium to raise the awareness among the people.
