Speakers say govt-backed candidates’
high-handedness to be resisted

CHAKWAL: Speakers of a seminar Saturday said the opposition parties would resist high-handedness of the Punjab government-backed candidates in the local bodies’ polls.
The seminar titled “How transparent local bodies election should be held” was arranged by society of sustainable development in the collaboration with the Chakwal Press Club on Saturday.
The speakers urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure transparent LG polls.
They guessed that the opposition parties would make a joint effort to compete the PML-N candidates in the LB polls.
Ex-tehsil Nazim Sardar Aftab Akbar, PTI District Chakwal Chief Coordinator Raja Yasir Sarfraz, PPP tehsil president Chaudhry Azam Minhas, Dr Sohail Janjua of the PAT, Ashraf Asif of the JI, Pir Shaukat Hussain Karooli of the PTI, Ali Nasir Bhatti of the PTI, Fozia Behram, ex-provincial minster, Rehana Babar, ex-member district council, Mrs Rafaqat Naz, ex-councilor, Chairman Chakwal Press Club Khawaja Babar Saleem Mehmood, Muhammad Khan Aqil, CR Shamsi of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ali Khan, President District Bar Chakwal, Abdul Rasheed Mirza, Advocate Nadeem Jawaid also spoke.
The speakers said transparent LG polls were impossible because officials of the Punjab government were made returning and assistant returning officers.
PTI’s Pir Shaukat Hussain stressed the need of adjustment with like-minded political parties to compete the PML-N candidates.
Raja Yasir Sarfraz expressed his different point of view ruling out alliance with any political party.
RS 0.5M CHEQUE FOR PRESS CLUB: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mehmood Javed Bhatti Saturday handed over a Rs 5 lakh cheque to the administration of Chakwal Press Club.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif sanctioned the amount on the application of Press Club chairman Khawaja Babar Saleem Mehmood.
Babar thanked the CM for assistance.
The DCO also visited Hyde Park and digital library of Chakwal Press Club and assured that the Press Club would be made a model club of the province.
