HANGU: The heavy rain and windstorm uprooted 95 percent of tents at a camp for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Orakzai Agency in Muhammad Khwaja area of Hangu district on Friday.
The strong winds also pulled down a tented school at the camp and the IDPs are now living in the open, said elders of the area. Talking to The News, Malik Janan, Malik Mehboob, Said Malang and others said that the displaced families were now facing numerous problems and they lacked drinking water and food items. They complained that neither the local administration, nor the tribal authorities have bothered to provide them any relief.
“The government, local and political administration have ignored us,” stated Said Malang. The IDPs demanded the government to make arrangements for their early return to their native areas. About 1,300 displaced families of Orakzai Agency have been staying at the camp for the last seven years. Official sources said that 473 tents had already been damaged due to overuse in 2013.
