Siraj wants accountability process impartial
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said that Chief Justice of Pakistan had shown the mirror to the PTI government, warning the rulers against misusing the accountability process for political engineering. The government must take seriously the CJ’s caution against “selective” accountability, he said in a statement on Thursday.
Siraj termed corruption the biggest hurdle to country’s progress, asking the rulers to first take action against corrupt elements within the government ranks before coming down hard against opponents. One year performance of the PTI government clearly indicated that it badly failed to impose its “anti-corruption” agenda, he said, adding that the PM was most vocal against corruption but he acted totally against his slogans. If PTI government was sincere in implementation of its “anti-corruption” agenda its action should have been impartial and across the board, he said.
He said the Supreme Court and the government had yet to take action against those 436 people who were named in Panama Papers. Similarly, said the JI chief, the NAB had not moved against those who were involved in mega scandals. Siraj said the government failed to stop corruption besides its claim that it would never take begging bowls was also exposed.
He alleged that the government handed over the country’s economy to IMF and World Bank. Historic devaluation of rupee against US dollar, skyrocketing inflation and massive increase in unemployment were the indicators of the government so-called performance in one year, he said. Siraj said the poor were unable to earn bread for two times and they were dying because of starvation.
