CHAKWAL: The district election office Tuesday displayed electoral lists of 71 union councils and wards of six municipal committees at public places for local bodies polls that are scheduled to be held on September 20, 2015, in Punjab.
The Election Commission asked the general voters that they can file an application to correct any mistake regarding the residential wards, mistakes of their name and any other matter regarding the voters list.
These applications can be filed before July 27th and after the announcement of local bodies election schedule, there would be no alteration in the electoral list. The Punjab government also issued local bodies amendment ordinance and it was declared that the local bodies election would be held on party basis for the first time in the history of Punjab.
Election office sources confirmed that the election schedule would be announced after July 28th and it was likely that nomination paper would be filed in the first week of August. It is a triangle fight in district Chakwal between the PML-N, the PTI and Sardar Ghulam Abbas group. The other parties the PPP, the Jamat-e-Islami, the PML-Q, the PAT would adjust themselves with these three big parties.
The opposition parties were making hectic efforts that joints and unanimous candidates are to be fielded against the PML-N candidates who had the backing of the Punjab government. Delimitation of union councils and wards were made with the collaboration of Punjab government and opposition parties alleged that administrative officers have been made returning and assistant returning officers to conduct the local bodies election and there would be a big question mark on the transparency of the local bodies election.
