ABBOTTABAD: The Abbottabad Police have arrested two cops allegedly involved in kidnapping for ransom.
Taking notice of a news item published in The News about the involvement of two cops in kidnapping of a newspaper worker, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Hazara Range directed the police officials to book the accused under the relevant law and arrest them.
The FIR was lodged against the two constables under Section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and both were arrested late Monday night.Talking to The News, DIG Hazara Range, Akhtar Hayat Gandapur said such incidents in the Police Department were intolerable.
“There is zero tolerance for even minor offences in Police Department,” he stressed.He said anyone having complaint against the police could approach him directly.It may be recalled that on the night of July 7, two policemen identified as Waqas and Yasir posted at Mirpur Police Station kidnapped an employee of a local daily from Mansehra Road in the jurisdiction of Cantt Police Station.
They demanded Rs25,000 for his release and were subsequently arrested by the police officials of Cantt Police Station and Sikanderabad police post.Initially, the police started departmental probe into the incident instead of arresting the accused. They were not suspended and were instead transferred to Sherwan Police Station.However, after the publication of the story in The News on Monday, DIG Akhtar Hayat Gandapur took notice of the incident and ordered their arrest after registration of the FIR.
