Seven recovered from illegal police detention

GUJRANWALA: The court bailiff appointed by additional session judge Abdul Qayyum recovered seven persons from illegal custody of Gujranwala Saddar Police Station and the police post at Francisabad.
The action was taken on a complaint filed by Ahmed Ejaz - resident of Rattoki village - who had alleged that the police had detained five persons, including his father, despite the fact that they were not involved in any criminal case, while the formal arrest had also not been recorded.
The bailiff recovered Ejaz and Ajmal - wanted in a case without formal arrest -from the police station. Five others - Bilal, Samoon, Arshad, Raees and Majid - were recovered from Francisabad Police Post, as they were neither wanted in any case nor formal arrest had been recorded.
The court released Ejaz and Ajmal on bail and set free the remaining five, while summoning the Saddar Police Station SHO with record to explain his position for Monday.
Daska killings case
An anti-terrorism court judge, Bushra Zaman, on Saturday resumed the hearing of Daska tragedy case that had claimed lives of two advocates at a makeshift courtroom at the Central Jail Gujranwala.
The counsel for the accused, former SHO Shehzad Warraich who was presented at the courtroom, completed cross examination of three prosecution witnesses whose statements were recorded during the last hearing. The court adjourned hearing till July 15 and summoned more prosecution witnesses.
Abducted child recovered
The Kotwali police arrested an abductor and safely recovered a child from Lahore.
The kidnapper has been identified as Mohammad Shafiq - resident of Muridke. According to details, the accused had abducted six-year-old Subha from Mohallah Takia Masoom Shah the other day and demanded Rs 40,000 as ransom.
On his demand, the parents initially sent him Rs 13,000 through easy paisa and promised to send the remaining amount in the same manner. However, the police determined his location and arrested the accused while receiving the money, leading to the recovery of the child.
