SIALKOT: Due to heavy rains in the Indian Held Jammu and Kashmir, there was low flood in Chenab River at Marala Headworks, while there was medium flood in Nullah Dek, flowing mainly in Pasrur tehsil on Friday.
The water flow in Chenab River was recorded at 117,615 cusecs and the water level was reported as receding. Similarly, the water level was receding in Jammu Tavi and Munawer Tavi rivers, two small tributaries of Chenab River, after a brief surge. The Chenab Rangers found the body of an unidentified Indian citizen along the bank of Jammu Tavi River after decrease in the water level. The body would be handed over to the Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) after fulfilling legal formalities.
On the other hand, medium flood was recorded in Nullah Dek due to heavy rains in the catchment area and water flow was recorded as 36,000 cusecs. Due to overflow in Nullah Dek, thousands of acres of agricultural land of about 12 villages, including Panjgraen, Kakapun, Nawadey, Chahur and Chak Machhana, was inundated and the newly-strengthen spur was also damaged at a few spots. DCO Dr Asif Tufail and the Pasrur assistant commissioner visited the affected areas and ordered necessary measures to avoid major loss in the monsoon.
Meanwhile, the locals criticised the Irrigation Department, which spent millions of rupees every year in the name of strengthening the spur along Nullah Dek, but every year flood damaged it.
