Officials pay surprise visits to Chitral markets

CHITRAL: Following the public complaints, the officials of the Food Department and Health Department paid surprise visits to several markets in Chitral Bazaar here on Tuesday.
A team comprising District Food Controller (DFC) Sher Fayyaz, District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Israr Ahmed, Assistant Food Controller, representatives of Sarifeen Huqooq Council and police paid surprise visits to markets on Ataliq Road, DC Road and Polo Ground Road.
The officials expressed anger over the unhygienic condition of a bakery on Polo Ground Road and directed the owner to keep it clean and ensure medical fitness certificates of his workers, failing which the bakery would be sealed.
The officials collected samples of food items from the shops and bakery and sent to Peshawar for laboratory test. They directed the shopkeepers to keep standard and branded food items in their shops or else strict action would be taken against them.
