Withdrawal of tax on banks transactions demanded

JHANG: Jhang Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) office-bearer Sheikh Mudassar Javed Monday urged the Governor State Bank of Pakistan and the federal government to withdraw withholding tax on banks transactions.
Talking to reporters, Mudassar said the new policy decision may be good to increase tax, but some banks are creating misunderstandings among the people.
He asked the government to increase its tax base through other legal means, saying this step of imposing withholding tax would cause unrest among the business community.
He said if the policy was not changed, the traders would start avoiding banking transactions.
Mudassar suggested the government to bring other sectors into tax net which are not paying tax instead of taking such hard steps.
