ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Friday directed removal of all impediments to the progress of development projects for Murree and speeding up work so that the people of Murree and tourists from all over the country enjoy best facilities at this beautiful resort. The prime minister was chairing a high-level briefing in Murree.
In a statement, the Prime Minister House said six development projects had been completed while speedy work on the remaining four projects was going on for an early completion in line with the development vision of the prime minister.
Nawaz expressed satisfaction over the good work but directed that no laxity should be witnessed in the development and upgradation of restoration of old grandeur to Murree.He said the government was providing all necessary resources to restore the lost glory of Murree which was a destination of choice for domestic tourists.
He directed that all schemes should be completed within the stipulated timeframe to provide maximum benefit to the people of the area at the earliest. The six completed projects include upgradation of general bus stand, modernization of sanitation and waste management system, rehabilitation of roads, Bansra Gali Forest Park, water supply schemes and anti-encroachment drive.
The projects under way include restoration of GPO to its original shape, Murree Arts Council Cinema, improvement in traffic management system and beautification and horticulture.The meeting was informed that water supply to Murree had been increased by 0.65 million gallons per day taking the daily supply to 1.9 million gallons.
Water metering system is being introduced in the city, while supply lines have been upgraded due to which leakages and theft has been eliminated. The prime minister directed that water supplied to the city should be properly treated so that it’s free of germs and pollutants. The prime minister was also given a presentation on bulk water supply scheme aimed at catering to the city’s needs with a 2025 perspective, under which water would be pumped from Jhelum River to meet the needs of Murree.
The meeting was further briefed on the proposed Islamabad-Murree-Muzaffarabad railway line. The railway would be of strategic importance providing link between Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The briefing apprised the prime minister of the latest status of three routes of cable cars in Murree which would ease traffic pressure in the main city as people will get down at the base station and move to the city through cable cars.
