SIALKOT: Punjab Interior Minister Shuja Khanzada has said that the network of the terrorists has mostly been destroyed under the National Action Plan and the terrorists are on the run, but they would not be spared till their total elimination.
Talking to newsmen at the DCO Office here on Thursday, he said that Pakistan army had broken the backbone of the terrorists during the Zarb-e-Azb operation. He said that the gallant officers and Jawans of the Pakistan army had offered memorable sacrifices to secure a safe and bright future for the nation, who was proud of them. He said that about 4,000 terrorists, mostly from the banned Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other extremist and sectarian groups, had been arrested in the province during the last one year. He said that a number of the nabbed terrorists during interrogation had admitted their links to the Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He opined that effective military operation against the terrorists, their speedy convictions by the courts and the executions of those on the death row had not only considerably reduced the terror activities but also reduced the ratio of other heinous crimes like murder, rape, kidnapping for ransom and extortion by 15 to 38 per cent in Punjab.
Earlier, addressing a meeting, Punjab Interior Minister Shuja Khanzada directed that all the necessary measures must be taken and all arrangements must be finalised to deal with any emergency situation in case of heavy rains and floods in the district during the coming monsoon. He warned that any slackness or lethargy from any individual or institution would not be tolerated in this regard.
Later, the Punjab interior minister visited Aaik and Bhed Nullahs in Sialkot and inspected their ongoing desilting, widening and cleaning. He ordered prompt legal action against those involved in throwing garbage and industrial waste in the Nullahs. Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Chairman Irfan Ali, Secretary Irrigation Saif Anjum, Punjab Disaster Management Authority Director General Jawad Akram, DCO Dr Asif Tufail, DPO Rai Ejaz Ahmad, Executive Director Community Development Concern Abdul Shakoor Mirza and others were also present on the occasion.
