Man gets death, lifer in two murder cases

FAISALABAD: Additional Sessions Judge Ghulam Murtaza on Thursday convicted an accused in two murder cases.
The judge awarded death sentence to Manzoor Hussain of Chak 592/GB for killing Muhammad Farooq. The judge also awarded him life imprisonment for killing Shahadat. The convict was also awarded Rs 100,000 fine in each case.
HUMAN TRAFFICKER CONVICTED: Anti-Corruption Special Judge Sohaib Ahmad Roomi on Thursday awarded five-year imprisonment and Rs 100,000 fine to Hamad Raza of Chiniot in a human smuggling case.
The prosecution said that the convict had deprived Liaqat Ali of Chiniot of Rs 410,000 by promising him to send him to Dubai in 2010 but he neither fulfilled his commitment nor refunded the amount. In another human smuggling case, the judge awarded two-year imprisonment and Rs 45,000 fine to Akbar Ali for extracting huge amount from Ghulam Mustafa of Mustafa Colony.
TWO KILLED ON ROAD: Two people were killed in separate road accidents here on Thursday.
In the first incident, Nasim Bibi was crossing a road near Nalka Kohala bus stop when a motorcycle hit her, killing her on the spot. In the second incident, motorcyclist Muhammad Qasim was crushed to death by a speeding van near Gatwala on Sheikhupura Road.
BIOMETRIC SYSTEM: CPO Afzal Ahmad Kausar inaugurated the biometric system at Kotwali police station on Thursday. He checked the efficacy of the latest device. Lyallpur Town SP Awais Malik and other police officers were also present.
MAN ROBBED: An incident of dacoity was reported here on Thursday. Munir Ahmad of Garden Mohallah along with his son was on way home after drawing Rs 500,000 from a bank near the Islamia College when the dacoits intercepted and snatched the amount from him.
PML-N dist chief’s brother joins PTI

FAISALABAD: Mian Khalid Mehmood, brother of PML-N district president Mian Muhammad Farooq, along with his hundreds of supporters has joined the PTI.
Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Thursday, Khalid Mehmood alleged that his brother MNA Mian Muhammad Farooq had implicated him and his sons Junaid Khalid and Obaid Khalid and some other opponents, including Ashfaqul Hassan and his son, in different cases. Therefore, he had decided to join the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf. He said that PTI chief Imran Khan was a true leader. He said that if the false cases against him and others were not quashed in the next six days, he along with the PTI workers and supporters would stage a demonstration outside the CPO Office. PTI local leaders Mian Waris, Mian Anwar Ramay, Zareef Khan Niazi and Sajjad Haider were also present.
