SUKKUR: A 50 KV transformer along with conductor wires and electric pylons has been installed at a bungalow of the Mumtaz Colony, Khairpur. The bungalow is possessed by a political heavyweight.
But there many more serious irregularities with regard to the bungalow. According to the records of the Sindh building department vide Letter No: HC/G-148-245, the house has been allotted to a schoolteacher named Muhammed Yaqoob. Interestingly, no one from the authorities took notice of the allotment of the house to a schoolteacher whose income according to the Sindh Education Department is a meagre 2,800 rupees. Further as per the rules, a schoolteacher is not entitled to a six bedroom bungalow.
Also, other bungalows in the locality are being provided electricity from an old Shah Abdul Latif University feeder, Khairpur, whereas a separate 50 KV transformer along with other equipment was installed only for a single bungalow physically possessed by a political figure. Sources said there was no such scheme to provide a transformer for a single bungalow. When contacted, Executive Engineer, Sepco, Khairpur, said that he had no information about it and shifted the call to another Sepco officer for briefing.
The provincial building department had spent eight million rupees on the repair and maintenance of the bungalow one year ago. Many other allottees of bungalows in the locality made several requests to the building department for the repair and renovation of their bungalows but officials refused. Besides, there is a police picket has been set up for three to four months outside the bungalow.
