HAFIZABAD: Two farmers were burnt to death and another received burns when lightning fell on them at Mangat Neecha village on Tuesday.
According to villagers, Tanveer, Shahid and Arif were cutting fodders for their cattle in a field when lightning fell on them. As a result, Tanveer and Shahid were burnt to death while Arif was injured. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. Meanwhile, the district received torrential rain, which lasted for more than two hours. The rain provided relief to the people from the scorching heat but created multiple problems for them as most of the streets and roads were inundated with rainwater and choking of sewerage. The sewage and rainwater also gushed into several houses. The people have urged the TMA to clean drains in the city ahead of the monsoon.
SWIMMING IN CANALS BANNED: Following the drowning of three youngsters in canals during the past few days, the DCO has imposed Section 144 CrPC, banning the swimming in canals in the district.
It is pertinent to mention that due to scorching heat during the past few days, hundreds of youngsters thronged five canals around the city to beat the heat. A young man had drowned three days ago while two others drowned on Monday.
LOADSHEDDING: People have been facing several problems due to unscheduled electricity loadshedding in the city and adjoining areas.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the people said that the loadshedding was affecting their routine activities. They said that water supply also remained suspended during the power loadshedding. They said that there was no power during Iftar and Sher time, which added to their problems. They criticised the Wapda for its failure to end the power crisis. They have demanded the government take steps to end the loadshedding.
