Two die, 50 faint due to heatstroke in Sukkur
People take to streets, stage sit-ins against power outages

SUKKUR: Scorching heat and prolonged power outages in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and other cities forced citizens to protests and sit-ins. The protestors also ransacked the Sepco offices.
Reports said that the prolonged power breakdown of 16 to 18 hours in Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur and other cities irked the citizens. While in rural areas the power was provided for just two to three hours Following the prolonged power outages there was acute shortage of drinking water in the city, while the citizens, to beat the heat, moved towards the canals.
In Khairpur, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Ghotki there was no power supply during Saher and Iftar, despite claims of water and power minister. Reports said as many as 50 citizens fainted due to heat and were shifted to hospitals, where Zakir Husain, Bakhsh Magnaijo died of heatstroke.
Hundreds of citizens also became victims of dehydration. Citizens staged protest against prolonged power outages, they stormed the office of the SDO Sepco No:6 Sukkur, ransacked it and set tyres on fire in front of the Sepco office.
They protested that there was no drinking water because the water pumping machines system was paralyzed. Reports said five feeders tripped in Larkana which led to 72-hour power breakdown in Bakrani, Dokri, ATM and other areas.
