JICA approves Rs7b water project of Faisalabad Wasa
FAISALABAD: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Tuesday approved the mega water supply project of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) which would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs7 billion.
A Wasa spokesman said that under the project, the number of tube-wells will be increased at Jhal Water Works and its capacity will be enhanced from 3 million gallon to 6 million gallons potable water daily.
The water will be supplied to the residents of Madina Town, Satiana Road, Canal Road, Mansoorabad, Saeed Colony, Abdullah Pur, People’s Colony and other peripheral localities. He said that the JICA has appointed its consultants who started their work and the project would be completed by 2023.
He explained that at present Wasa was providing portable water of 88.5 million gallons daily to the residents of Faisalabad. He said that 56 million gallon water was pumped out from tube wells installed at the brink of River Chenab near Chiniot, whereas 20 million gallons water was obtained from the tube-wells installed at the brink of Jhang Branch Canal. Similarly, 8 million gallon water got from the tube wells installed at Rakh Branch Canal while 3 million gallon water was produced by the tube wells working at Jhal Water Works and 1.5 million gallons water by the tube wells of Millat Town Water Works.
137 mosques, Imambargahs declared
sensitive: Police made a strict security plan to deal with any untoward situation during the holy month of Ramazan as 137 mosques and Imambargahs were declared sensitive in Faisalabad region. A police spokesman said Tuesday that during a special survey, 137 mosque and Imambargahs were declared sensitive across the region. Of them, 64 mosques and Imambargahs fell in district Toba Tek Singh, 36 in Jhang, 31 in Faisalabad and six in district Chiniot.
On this report, search operation and sweeping of the district has been assigned to special branch and civil defence department, he added.
Factory gutted: A godown of a cotton factory was gutted at Sammundri Road due to short circuit here on Tuesday. Rescue 1122 said that fire engulfed the whole surroundings which burnt precious cotton bales stock. The firefighters of Rescue 1122 rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after hectic efforts. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.
