FAISALABAD: The lawyers of district and tehsil bar associations of Faisalabad division would stage a sit-in in front of the Lahore High Court building soon after Eidul Fitr to press their long-standing demand for the establishment of an LHC bench in Faisalabad.
The date and time of the sit-in and complete strike would be finalised at the lawyers’ convention to be convened shortly. This decision was taken in a joint meeting of the bar associations held under the chairmanship of Faisalabad DBA president Malik Muhammad Ayub Sialvi here on Thursday. The presidents and secretaries of all bar associations of Faisalabad division attended the meeting.
The meeting unanimously decided that all the district and tehsil bar associations would observe 3-day complete strike (Friday, Saturday and Monday) in a week during Ramazan and during the remaining three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), the lawyers would observe half-day strike (after 12 noon).
DBA secretary Rana Kashif Sultan informed the meeting that the lawyers would continue their movement for the establishment of a high court bench. He said a resolution would be tabled in the lawyers divisional convention to grant the status of a separate province to Faisalabad if the government didn’t accept their demand. DBA vice-president Malik Safir Khan Wasir said Faisalabad was the third biggest district in the country and its dwellers and business community were paying billions of rupees tax to the government, hence the denial to establish a high court bench was highly unjustified.
