TransPeshawar launches enlistment campaign for Peshawar transport
PESHAWAR: TransPeshawar, a company responsible for implementation, management and maintenance of urban transit projects of the provincial government, launched an enlistment campaign for Peshawar transport industry on Wednesday to provide compensation and jobs to those associated with the public transport.
Facilitation desks have been set up at seven locations around the city, including TransPeshawar Office, Kamboh Adda, Hayatabad Phase 6 Adda, Kohat Road Adda, General Bus Stand and Karkhano Market Adda. These desks provide information and required forms of enlistment from April 10 to May 10, 2019. The vehicle owners and allied staff are encouraged to submit the completed form by May 10, 2019, at the facilitation desks. The release said after the BRT operations will start in Peshawar, the decades’ old buses and vans without any fitness certificates will not be allowed to ply, as most of these vehicles are unsafe to travel and also causing environmental pollution. The drivers were asked to enlist vehicles to get compensation up to a maximum of Rs1.5 million and also a monthly income of around Rs30,000.
The release said the vehicles were evaluated on the basis of availability of original documents, the model of vehicle, possession of appropriate route permits and physical condition of the vehicle. In addition, the Peshawar BRT will also hire staff that include public service vehicle (PSV) licence holding drivers, conductors, ticketing, repair and maintenance, security and cleaning staff. The employees working in the local transport industry for years in Peshawar would be preferred. The release added that the lists of these employees will be then handed over to vendors selected to operate BRT who will prefer enlisted workers for the job opportunities.
These workers will be given remuneration as per the labour laws of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, which is usually not practised in the private local transport industry.
