‘PM keen to establish varsity in Hyderabad as well as other districts of Sindh’

SUKKUR: The Sindh Governor, Imran Ismail, on Tuesday said the prime minister has keen interest in providing higher education opportunities for the people of the province and pledged to establish new universities in Hyderabad and other districts as well.

The Sindh governor said Hyderabad is the second largest city of Sindh, and it is unfortunate that it does not have any public sector university. He said not only one but there was a need to establish several universities in the city as the population grows day by day.

Talking to the media persons at the Circuit House, Hyderabad, after inspecting lands for the proposed federal university, Governor Ismail said it is not necessary to take the provincial government into confidence for establishing a federal university in the city though their cooperation would be appreciated. He said he visited three different areas for looking at suitable location.

The Sindh governor said taking over the under-construction Bahria University could also be a good option as most of the construction work has already been completed, so it is suitable to shift the idea to a established structure.

He said after reviewing different aspects, he would give a briefing to the prime minister who will make the final decision.

Ismail said it is not likely that the Sindh government will give the land for Hyderabad University thus we were looking for land. Replying to a question, he said that the establishment of a university in Thar was also announced by the federal government.

The Sindh governor said Imran Khan was the prime minister of the entire country and it is his prerogative to announce development package where he feels the people are being deprived. He said the prime minister has also announced the development package of Rs.162 billion and for that some political jugglers are criticising him and that is ridiculous.

Governor Ismail said the development projects announced by the federal government are not to facilitate some specific individuals or parties but they are to benefit the people of entire province.

He said Imran Khan despite political differences wants to go along with the opposition parties, including PPP, for the sake of the people and now, it is up to the Sindh government to give a positive response over the matters of the people of the province.

Replying to a question regarding the MQM, the governor said Imran Khan has expressed the probability that the PTI and MQM could contest the next elections together. He said the PTI had differences with MQM over militancy issue but after MQM founder Altaf Hussain, MQM is a close ally of the PTI in the parliament.
