Svec upsets Hosny as CAS Squash begins
ISLAMABAD: Martin Svec (Cze), ranked outside hundred, surprised higher ranked Ahmed Hosny (Egy) as $ 30, 000 Chief of the Air Staff-Serena Hotels International Squash Tournament springs into action at the Mushaf Ali Mir Complex Monday.
Svec got better of Egyptian No 83 in just 26 minutes 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 to make it into the second round.
The first two games were neck to neck affair with Svec succeeded in controlling the games near the conclusion. The third one turned out to be a mere formality.
Carlos Cornes Ribadas (Esp) accounted for Farhan Zaman (Pak) 12-10, 11-0, 11-8. Pakistani never looked serious enough to take the fight back to Spanish player. Farhan showed some guts in the first but was seen totally off coloured in rest of two.
Local Farhan Mehboob overwhelmed Israr Ahmad to make it to the second round.Leading players however enjoyed bye in the first round and would be seen in action in the second Tuesday.Senior Vice President PSF Air Marshal Shahid Akhtar Alvi graced the opening ceremony as chief guest.
