National Men’s, Women’s Judo Championships from April 30
KARACHI: National Men's and Women's Judo Championships 2019 will be held from April 30 to May 4 at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) said on Monday.
The PJF said that in the light of the decision of the last general council meeting, team events for men and women have also been included, for the first time. "The team event will be held as per the International Judo Federation (IJF) rules," the PJF said.
The teams participating are Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Army, WAPDA, Railways, Police, Navy and Higher Education Commission (HEC). A token participation has been given to DHA for the promotion of judo.
The championship of men will be held in ten weights while the championship of women will be contested in eight weight categories. The men's weight categories are -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, +100kg and open weight.
The women weights are -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg and open weight.
The men's team event will be contested in -66 kg,-73 kg,-81kg,-90kg and +90kg, while the women's team event will be played in -52 kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg and +70kg.
Teams will arrive on April 30. On the same day the managers meeting will be held at 3pm, followed by meeting of technical officials at 4pm and official weigh-in of men and women at 6pm.
PJF chief Col (retd) Junaid said the best fighters from the event would be given chance to represent Pakistan in international events.
