Commissioner reviews arrangements for World Soccer Stars match
KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani visited Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium on Tuesday reviewed the arrangements for World Soccer Stars match scheduled to be played on April 27 there.
World renowned footballers will participate in the match, Olympian Iftikhar Syed briefed the Commissioner. He informed the Commissioner that the stadium has the capacity of more than 25,000 spectators and its floodlights are operational.
The commissioner said it was delightful to know that world's most famous footballers are visiting Pakistan and they would be in action in Karachi. "We must make wonderful arrangements so that football lovers enjoy the match and the presence of these great footballers," he said.
He said that football is a fast growing discipline in the country and tens of thousands would come to Edhi stadium to witness the match. He said that meetings with traffic police were yet to be arranged to ensure the smooth flow of traffic at Shahrah-e-Faisal, and around the Jinnah Hospital.
The commissioner vowed that foolproof security arrangements would be made for the match. The renowned footballers who are to visit Pakistan include Portugal’s Luis Figo, Brazilian Kaka, Spain’s Carles Puyol and France's Nicolas Anelka.
