Sharifs worried over JIT questions: Qadri
LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has said former rulers, Sharif Brothers, are extremely worried since for the first time an impartial JIT has been formed to investigate Model Town killings which questioned them for their alleged conduct in the killings, visited crime scene, conducted forensic survey of bullet holes and raised vital questions about arms used in the incident, etc.
He was talking to the media at Lahore airport on Tuesday after returning to the country from Canada. He said the new JIT has recorded statements of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Rana Sana, Dr Tauqeer Shah and other about 150 bureaucrats and officers involved in Model Town case. He expressed satisfaction on the appointment of AD Khawaja as head of JIT, saying it was heartening to see that no member of JIT was from Punjab Police. Dr Qadri said whatever the findings of JIT would be, he was satisfied with its formation and modus operandi.
Dr Qadri said none of the two previous JITs had recorded statements of any of the wounded PAT workers and they clearly favoured the accused in the case. He said PAT would continue to fight for justice till realisation of the goal of justice. To a question, Dr Qadri refused to comment on recent verdicts of Supreme Court, saying judicial matters would be raised and discussed before judiciary only.
To another question, he said he wished Nawaz Sharif should remain hale and hearty till the decision of Model Town killings case. He asked why just a day before Model Town tragedy, important appointments and transfers were made in Punjab on photo copied orders. He said previous JITs did not ask Sharifs why special plane was sent Quetta to bring DIG Mushtaq Sukhera to Lahore, adding that what was the nature of emergency for which he was brought, and what kind of job was assigned to him?
