ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Thursday approved two projects worth Rs913 million and recommended three projects costing Rs96 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec).
The CDWP held its meeting under the chairmanship of Minister for Planning Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar. The meeting was also attended by Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan, members and senior officials from federal and provincial governments.
The projects presented for approval were related to governance, physical planning, housing and transport and communication.
The CDWP cleared construction of western route project for dualisation of existing two lanes (Kuchlak-Zhob section of N-50) to four lanes and acquisition of land for the project with total estimated cost of Rs78.98 billion. The project will be completed in three years till July 2022, including acquisition of 41,522 kanal of land with an estimated cost of Rs11.342 billion and dualisation of N-50 section with cost of Rs67.638 billion.
The PC-1 of the project envisaged dualisation/up-gradation of 305 kilometers length. N-50 starts from Kuchlak to north of Quetta and runs east via the urban areas of Muslim Bagh, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Mughal Kot ending at an intersection with the Indus Highway near Dera Ismail Khan. The project has been divided into five packages, including Kuchlak to Kanozai having length of 55km, Kanozai to Nasai (65km), Nasai to Qila Saifullah (50km), Qila Saifullah to Tangi (65km) and Tangi to Zhob (70km). The PC-1 estimated Rs57 million as cost for 28 vehicles.
The forum constituted a committee comprising stakeholders to confirm and rationalise the cost and scope of 305km road project in two separate parts.
Bakhtiar said the present government attaches priority to construction of western route and improving socioeconomic condition of neglected areas.
“Completion of project will contribute to smooth and efficient movement of goods and traffic in relatively shorter time,” the planning minister said in a statement.
The government also granted conditional approval for connection of Gwadar with national grid with an estimated cost of Rs17.421 billion provided the rationalisation of cost by the member energy and endorsement of the scope of the project by National Transmission and Dispatch Company. The government also approved concept paper for integrated flood risk management project with an estimated cost of Rs300 million, including Rs100 million as foreign exchange component.
The power division presented a project ‘Interconnection of Isolated Gwadar/Makran Area with National Grid System of Pakistan’ worth Rs17.421 billion, which was referred to Ecnec.
The minister said the project is important for Gwadar development, connecting southern remote region with the national grid. “Availability of electricity is one of the major hindrances in development of Gwadar,” he added. “The project is expected to be completed through QESCO (Quetta Electric Supply Company) in three years.”
