Islamabad : Federal Minster for Communications & Postal Services Murad Saeed has said that models roads shall be made available in the country through a forestation, beautification and cleanliness. This attempt will help provide environment friendly traveling to the people. Trees provide guard against natural calamities and disasters. As the chief guest, he was speaking to inauguration ceremony of Clean and Green Pakistan Week, here on Monday.
The week is being observed in 15 cities throughout the country simultaneously. The National Highway Authority is initiating this campaign with cooperation of PHA, ICT, FWO, Government of Punjab, CBR, SLMP, UNDP, Civil Society, Traders community and local administration. State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul also participated. Besides Secretary Communications, Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Chairman PHA, DIG Motorway Police, Brig Shamim Akram of FWO and representatives of UNDP and CBR were also present in the ceremony. Mr. Murad Saeed invited the youth in particular to come forward to make this campaign a success. All efforts will be made to plant trees along motorways and national highways throughout the country. Recalling Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier signed between NHA and Ministry of Climate Change he reiterated his commitment to achieve the targets within available resources without seeking funds from Ministry of Finance. Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway having Intelligent Transport System (ITS) will be opened to traffic on March 30, 2019, he added.
Zartaj Gul in her address said, our country has received excess rains this year which is a symbol of blessing of the Allah Almighty. She said, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is striving hard to put country on the track to development. She said, trees cast pleasant effects upon human life and we are to further this drive hand in hand to make it a success.
On this occasion, a MoU was also signed between National Highway Authority and Parks and Horticulture Authority Rawalpindi. Director Environment NHA and Director PHA signed the MOU.
A detailed briefing was also given to the chief guest regarding countrywide afforestation campaign. Special souvenirs and shields were also presented to the participating guests. Beautiful caps and shirts containing Clean and Green Pakistan Slogans were also given to the participants.
