Maryam rejects letter about Nawaz health carrying her name, signature
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Sunday rejected a letter circulating with her name and signature as fake and said it was the "work of an evil mind".
In a post on Twitter, Maryam wrote, “Attached is a fake letter circulating with my name and signatures. Some evil mind at work!”
The fake letter shows her seeking US diplomat Paul W Jones' help, requesting him to use his influence in order to get relief for the former prime minister, who has been suffering from heart disease.
“In spite of my repeated personal requests to competent authorities, the medical board constituted for this purpose continues to report incorrect facts on my father’s condition, perhaps at the behest of certain power lobbies.
“This has resulted in the courts being misled and preventing ordering necessary steps to be taken to ensure the life of the former prime minister,” the letter stated. It reads, “The gravity of the situation compels me to appeal to you to use your good offices for intervention in this matter, in the interest of justice and human rights. Pakistan has always been a great ally of the US and this alliance was greatly cherished and strengthened during all of my father’s past tenures. It is stated as a friend of the US that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeks support of the people of the United States of America so that this unfortunate inhumanity can be strongly countered.”
The PML-N spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, also rejected the letter and said the letter circulating with Maryam Nawaz’s name and signature is fake.
“Letter to the American administrator is fake,” Aurangzeb wrote on Twitter. “We only have confidence in God. This letter is an attempt to distract people’s attention from the seriousness of Nawaz Sharif's health situation.
“All those who believe in justice are worried about Nawaz Sharif’s health,” she added.
Earlier, this month Maryam had shared that her father Nawaz Sharif's condition was life-threatening and that he has had four angina attacks.
The former prime minister has been imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat jail since December 2018 following his conviction in a corruption reference in line with the Supreme Court’s July 2017 verdict.
