LAHORE
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf central leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi Friday said the Sharifs should always remember that they got power due to lawyers’ movement for restoration of democracy and independent judiciary.
He was speaking at a condolence reference held for martyred lawyers of Daska by Insaf Lawyers Forum in Karachi Shuhada Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association.
Qureshi said black coats had defended Sharif brothers in plane hijacking case and got them acquitted from the court. He said the lawyers were the protectors of law and well aware of people’s fundamental rights. He said Daska like violent incidents were a dilemma for society but the perpetrators were allowed to roam free. He said the Daska incident exposed political influence in police force. He said the chief minister had promised fair inquiry into Daska killings but the people had no confidence in it.
He pointed out that investigation in Model Town incident also failed to fix responsibility on guilty officials.
About local government election recently held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, he said the PTI was ready for re-poll under army’s supervision. He said success on more than 50 percent seats showed public trust in PTI.
He dispelled an impression about differences among party leaders and said that internal conflicts were not new for any party in the country. People knew not only the differences between Bilawal Bhutto and his father Asif Zardari but also the story of Sharif brothers’ differences, he added. He said the people were seeing Imran Khan as an alternate leadership. Response given to PTI by public in LG polls was historic, he added.
The PTI leader also criticised government for ignoring killings of Muslims brothers in Myanmar. He said Imran Khan was first Pakistani leader who raised voice for the oppressed Muslim brotherhood.
PTI’s Punjab organiser Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said the people were being killed daily in country but nobody was there to catch the killers. He expressed his sympathy with the families of the martyred lawyers and said his party stood by them.
