ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain termed Pakistan environment safe for international sports events and attributed the success of Pakistan Super League (PSL) to anti-terrorism war.

Speaking as chief guest at the opening ceremony of Jang Media Cricket League 2019, the minister said the country had proved its worth in international sports.

“Pakistan has won cricket World Cup and other major sports events in the world, confirming its status as the major sporting nation in the region.”

Fawad, however, admitted that with the time the standard had gone down.

“That was because previous governments had diverted the sports funds for their own interests. A former minister Ahsan Iqbal raised a sports complex with a hefty amount at the Pak-India border. Such an attitude is serving no good to Pakistan sports.”

Fawad added the government will soon take concrete measures for the promotion of sports in the country.

“Every tehsil will have sports facilities and in years to come every town in the country will be having same sports facilities.”

He called on youngsters especially women folk to come forward in sports in a big way.

“Women’s sports promotion is very important. I am hopeful that youth and women will take special interest in sports.”

The minister said that sports build individual personality which ultimately helps built a society.

“Sports are vital for society’s development and I am hopeful under the leadership of Imran Khan country will progress on all fronts including sports.”
