Islamabad : Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul on Tuesday visited the National Coordination Unit (NCU) of the Sustainable Land Management Programme (SLMP) here where she was briefed about the activities being carried out under the programme for combating land degradation and desertification in Pakistan.
National Programme Coordinator Hamid Marwat gave a presentation about the achievements and progress of SLMP. The progress of the programme in four provinces of Pakistan was discussed and programme’s achievements were appreciated by the Minister.
She called for the stepping up of Sustainable Land Management (SLM) up-scaling activities in coming years. The NPC informed that the programme is being executed in fourteen districts of all four provinces by the Ministry of Climate Change (Government of Pakistan) in partnership with UNDP Pakistan, Global Environment Facility (GEF) and all provincial governments.
Zartaj Gul said that climate change requires more attention and particular focus must be on combating land degradation and desertification.
