DASKA: Funeral prayers for Shakirullah, a Pakistani prisoner who was stoned to death by other inmates in an Indian prison, were offered here on Sunday.
Shakirullah's body was handed over by India to Pakistan at the Wagah Border on Saturday. He was murdered while in captivity at Rajasthan's Jaipur Central Jail last month, after India levelled baseless allegations against Pakistan of involvement in the Pulwama attack in Occupied Kashmir. He had been in the jail since 2001.
Thousands of people including Provisional Minister for Environment Baoo Rizwan, President PTI Central Punjab Umar Dar, MNA Iftikharul Hassain, MPAs Zeeshan Rafiq, Naveed Ashraf, President Daska Bar Shahzad Gujjar, DPO Sialkot Ameer Abdullah, DSP Daska Shahid Nawaz and Assistant Commissioner Waqas Cheema attended the funeral prayers.
The postmortem report of Shakirullah revealed that he died owing to a head injury. According to the report compiled by a six-member team of medical experts under the stewardship of the Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital’s medical superintendent, the Pakistani national died from a head injury. Dr Farooq said more details will come to light after forensic report of the deceased.
The grieving family of Shakirullah has urged the government to take up his case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Talking to the media at Jessarwala, Daska, on Sunday, his family said Pakistan must expose the real face of India. They said Shakirullah was stoned to death by Hindu extremists, though his protection was a responsibility of the Indian government.
