PHC orders Nadra to unblock 40 CNICs

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday ordered the director general of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to unblock the CNICs of 40 persons of a family, which had been blocked on the suspicion that the holders were Afghan nationals.
A single bench announced the decision reserved earlier by a division bench consisting of Justice Roohul Amin and Justice Syed Afsar Shah. In a short order the high court directed the Nadra director general to unblock the CNICs of 40 persons of a family as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inquiry report into the matter had been received.
The FIA in its inquiry report stated that all the family members belonged to the Shinwari tribe in Hangu district and were not Afghan nationals. Ghulam Muhammad and other family members had filed the writ petition in 2012, seeking unblocking of the CNICs.
The petitioner’s lawyer submitted that for the last four years the petitioners including government employees were suffering as their CNICs had been blocked. He said that some of them were government employees in the DC office and Police Department whose salaries had been stopped after their CNICs were blocked. He said that all the petitioners were Pakistanis and their CNICs had been blocked just on complaints and without any FIA inquiry into the matter.
