NOWSHERA/KOHAT: The district administration on Monday imposed Section 144 in
Nowshera and Kohat districts and banned rallies, processions, gathering of people and celebration of victories of candidates in the local government elections.
The officials of the district administrations said that Section 144 was imposed after receiving complaints from various parts of the districts about the clashes between the supporters of winning and losing candidates during the celebratory processions.
They said there was a potential threat of clashes and worsening of law and order situation. The district administrations of the two districts directed the police to take stern action against the violators.
Meanwhile, the activists of the Awami National Party (ANP) Monday staged protest against the arrest of the party Secretary General Mian Iftikhar Hussain. Holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans, the protesters took out a rally from the district courts and reached Shobra Chowk.
ANP leader Sardar Hussain Babak and others led the rally.Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Babak said that the victory of ANP candidates had panicked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
He said the PTI used government machinery and other tactics to win the election but the people rejected the so-called harbingers of change. “The government has started victimising its political rivals,” he added.
He said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan talked about rigging in the general election, but he could not see rigging in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government elections. They demanded that the first information report against Mian Iftikhar Hussain should be withdrawn.
