‘Nawaz needs specialised hospital for coronary treatment’
LAHORE: Personal physician of Nawaz Sharif, Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, has said the former premier needed a highly specialised setup for coronary intervention, as he has a previous history of medical complications and also an underlying kidney disease.
Talking to reporters at Jinnah Hospital, where the ousted premier has been admitted for a week now, Dr Adnan said specialised medical board of the hospital had submitted its recommendations to the government and it was waiting for further instructions. “Nawaz Sharif requires further evaluation and an aggressive treatment,” said Dr Adnan, who has seen his recent medical reports.
About angiography, recommended by Jinnah Hospital’s board, he said: “It is not a straightforward angiography, as Nawaz Sharif has previous history of medical complications, and also an underlying kidney disease.” He said medical board at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), where the former PM had undergone a thallium heart scan on January 2, had also recommended further evaluation and aggressive treatment as according to the scan part of the heart was lacking the blood supply.
Meanwhile, Shamim Begum, mother of the former PM, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and brother Shahbaz Sharif visited hospital on Thursday and spent some time with him. The other party leaders who had gone to inquire after their party’s quaid were not allowed.
Dozens of PML-N workers and supporters, who had gathered at the Jinnah Hospital, chanted slogans when the party leadership arrived at the hospital. Talking to the media after arriving at the hospital, Shehbaz said Nawaz Sharif s patriotism cannot be doubted. Sharif s mother said that she is praying for her son s early recovery.
